Government of Mexico pushes through major tourism projects

During this year, the major tourism projects of the current government of Mexico should be completed. This was announced by Tourism Minister Miguel Torruco Marqués. These projects would promote economic activities in the country and diversify the revenues of this economic sector.
In a press release, the minister promised that the Tren Maya train line, which is being built in the southeast of the country, would open in December. “This project of drastic importance represents the largest investment in the tourism sector in the last 60 years,” Torruco said. “There will be 20 stops along the Tren Maya’s 1,524-kilometer rail route, and the train will improve the quality of life for residents of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco and Chiapas by connecting more than 190 major tourism attractions.”
With projects like these, he continued, the State Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur) is working to develop “anchor products” in the different states of Mexico to make tourism activities more diverse and increase the per capita spending of visitors:inside.
