Mexico added nearly 111,700 formal jobs in the first month of 2023

The Mexican economy added 111,699 formal jobs in the first month of 2023. This is the third largest monthly increase in the last 16 years, reported the Mexican Social Security Institute.

The job creation in the first month of the year comes after the disappearance of 345,705 jobs last December, a phenomenon that the government attributes to temporary positions and employers who do not want to pay benefits, resulting in a net creation of 752,748 jobs in 2022.

According to the IMSS, the total number of formal jobs in Mexico in January is 21,484,595, of which 86.3% are permanent and the rest temporary.
